RealVNC Connect version 8 has arrived, and with it comes a new way of interacting with the software. Namely, V8 means we have a fully redesigned user interface, as well as a RealVNC application that combines Viewer and Server into one.
Did that get your attention? Good. Let’s dive into what’s new and show you how nothing will ever be the same way again. In a very good way, of course…
A Completely Redesigned Interface Shaped by Customer Feedback
You asked, we listened. Our radical redesign of RealVNC Connect that comes in version 8 wasn’t born somewhere outside the real world. It was shaped by our users’ invaluable feedback.
We’ve taken onboard what you love about the way you interact with our software. We also thoroughly analysed what you wanted to see improved. With all this in mind, we worked tirelessly to build something much more accessible to you.
Connecting via your remote access solution is now as streamlined as switching on a light. Everything is consolidated into an easy-to-navigate interface, that puts simplicity first. And, if we say so ourselves, it manages to do that while also looking great.
For example, you can quickly filter your device list to find the one you need. You can also easily group your devices, manage device group memberships, or view key device details easily from RealVNC Connect.
The new Code Connect feature, which we discuss in this article also takes its rightful place in the new interface, ready for you to use it.
Usability is extended beyond aesthetics. Familiar users will easily find the features they know and love. However, the way they’re now organized has been polished for more efficiency.
However, if you’re having trouble giving up on our old interface, we also made it easier to switch back to it.
Dark Mode Is Here
Dark Mode is a feature that our customers have requested almost unanimously. Well, our Design department has thoroughly delivered. The software looks elegant in Dark Mode, making those evening remote access sessions much easier on the eyes.
Of course, a Light Mode is available and you’re most welcome to use it, if that’s your preference.
A Unified Application
One of the most important leaps in V8 is the decision to combine Viewer and Server into a single application. If you’ve been a user of our product until now, you’ll be familiar with the “install Server on the machine you’re controlling and Server on the machine you’re controlling” dynamic. This structure has most certainly served its purpose. However, the new unified app offers a welcome simplification.
Previously, you would have needed to manage and use each application separately, depending on what you needed. Or, indeed, have both installed on a machine, if it was serving both purposes. For example, if you needed to access your work computer from home, but you were providing support to colleagues from it as well. All that is in the past; you now have an application that handles both roles.
You can toggle between the two roles seamlessly. Plus, if you don’t want a machine to be accessible, you can switch off the Server functionality in one click. Configuration is done from the same app.
We believe that this, along with the simplified naming it comes with, will make things much easier to manage.
RealVNC Connect version 8 is not just an update. It’s a whole new way of working with remote access. If you haven’t tried the new experience yet, what better time than now?
