Getting started

This document provides a simple introduction on how to use VNC Tool to install VNC Enterprise Edition on a set of servers and use it to provide a suitable initial configuration. This document is divided into four sections:

Registering your license key

When you purchased VNC Enterprise Edition, you should have received a 25-character license key. Before you begin, you should enter this key into VNC Tool; once this is done your license key can be automatically applied each time VNC Tool is used to install VNC Enterprise Edition.

Select Add/Remove Licenses... from the Licenses menu.

Pick a suitable name and enter your license key.

The details of your license key will be displayed in the list.

If you have not purchased a license key, you can get a trial key that is valid for up to ten computers for a period of up to 30 days by clicking on the Trial license button illustrated above. Once this trial period has expired you can buy a permanent license for VNC Enterprise Edition for as many computers as you require.

Scanning your network

Before you can install VNC Enterprise Edition, you should first perform a scan of your network.

First, check the scan options by selecting Options... from the Scan menu.

Installing VNC Enterprise Edition

Once you have scanned your network you can right-click on any host or domain to bring up a menu of commands applicable to it. You can use This menu to install, uninstall or configure VNC Server Enterprise Edition.

To install VNC Enterprise Edition, first select Options... from the Installation menu.

Ensure that the License key field is set to Automatic.

Right-click on the Network neighbourhood icon and select Install/Reinstall from the pop-up menu.

A window will be displayed when the installation is complete.

Configuring your VNC servers

Once you have installed VNC Server Enterprise Edition on your computers, you may wish to configure them. The steps below describe how to set up a typical default configuration (enable authentication of users against their NT domain passwords, and configure the access control to allow administrators to connect with no restrictions) and apply it to your servers.

Select Edit Configuration... from the Configuration menu.

Click the Settings button and select Add setting... from the pop-up menu.

Add a setting for UserPasswdVerifier, set to NtLogon and one for NtLogon_Config, set to Administrators:f.

Click OK to close the window, right-click on the Network neighbourhood icon, and select Export VNC settings.

A window will displayed once the settings have been applied to all hosts in your network neighbourhood.
