RealVNC drives innovation with VNC® Automotive at Mobile World Congress 2012
RealVNC is putting the smartphone at the center of in-vehicle infotainment with VNC Automotive
7th February 2012: RealVNC will be demonstrating the future of mobile to vehicle connectivity with its VNC® Automotive solution at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month. RealVNC is working with major car manufacturers, handset vendors, network operators and Tier 1 suppliers to integrate mobile and vehicle, enabling drivers to access and control the content of their smartphones such as maps, music and internet radio, safely from the vehicle head unit.
VNC Automotive has been widely adopted by many leading automotive manufacturers and equipment suppliers, including Jaguar Land Rover, RIM, Clarion, Wipro, Cybercom, Denso, Visteon, Teleca and QNX. The solution is already available in the vehicles of a major Japanese automotive manufacturer, from several Tier 1 equipment suppliers and has been chosen for production by Jaguar Land Rover. RealVNC recently announced that VNC Automotive has been integrated by CSR into its SiRFPrimaII™ System on Chip aimed at the entry level automotive navigation market. In an industry first, this system enables a connection to be made to the phone via Wi-Fi as the driver approaches the vehicle. Further announcements are expected during Mobile World Congress.
VNC Automotive technology is the most robust and advanced standard for mobile to vehicle connectivity. Unlike other connectivity protocols that are available to only a few drivers with the newest handsets, VNC Automotive provides the widest range of mobile and head unit platform support, including support for legacy handsets. As a core member of the Car Connectivity Consortium, RealVNC is committed to providing a safe and seamless experience of smartphone use in vehicle. VNC Automotive also supports other protocols including MirrorLink™, a specification underpinned by VNC technology, and iPod Out, a system that allows an iPhone 3G/3GS/4 or iPod Touch to display the video interface on an in-vehicle head unit.
RealVNC will also be featuring the latest release of its VNC Mobile Solution for Helpdesk and Device Management, allowing remote access, control and management of the widest range of mobile operating systems from a desktop computer. VNC Mobile Solution is used by companies such as Sicap, Kailaz, Movenda and Ennova in helpdesk management tools for the world's largest Telcos. The ability for helpdesk agents to remotely access customers' handsets and assist with troubleshooting, training and application installation is greatly improving first time call resolution rates and reducing customer churn throughout the industry.
In addition, RealVNC will be demonstrating the latest versions of its popular VNC Viewer App that allows users to view and fully interact with a Mac OS X, Windows, Linux or UNIX computer from an Apple iOS or Android device — available from the App Store or Android Market. The App is used by personal and professional users alike, giving individuals the freedom to access their computer whilst travelling or as a tool for business users such as IT help-desk staff to remotely support colleagues.
