Aardman Animations gets remote support with help from RealVNC
VNC® keeps complex production processes running smoothly
1st May 2012: Academy Award winning Aardman Animations is using VNC® Enterprise Edition from RealVNC to remotely monitor and fix computers used in its editing department and animation studios. Responsible for pioneering films such as Wallace and Gromit, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Chicken Run, the production technology team at Aardman can instantly resolve technical problems, install new applications and make rapid configuration changes across its three sites in Bristol without having to make time-consuming desk-side visits. This remote support capability reduces system downtime and helps to keep the complex and costly production process running smoothly.
With digital technology playing a fundamental role in Aardman Animations’ productions, it is imperative that the small team of technicians are able to solve IT issues for editors and animators quickly and easily, regardless of which systems they use. VNC Enterprise Edition offers cross-platform interoperability, ensuring that IT staff can support Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems, while also having minimal bandwidth requirements. Ease-of-use and the simple peer-to-peer architecture, which eliminates the need for a centralized server, along with the small system requirements of the software were also important factors in Aardman’s purchasing decision. And with various screen resolutions used in the different areas of production, the desktop scaling feature offered by VNC is also proving extremely useful.
“RealVNC’s software allows us to assist editors and animators experiencing IT problems without needing to leave our desks,” said Paul Reeves, Production Technology, Aardman Animations. “The ease-of-use, cross-platform support and ability to connect direct from viewer to server without a central server make it the ideal solution for us. We’re very happy with the role VNC plays in production.”
