RealVNC releases new version of VNC® Enterprise Edition
20th December 2010: RealVNC has launched the latest version of its enterprise class, cross-platform VNC® solution for remote desktop access and control. VNC Enterprise Edition 4.6 provides greatly enhanced support for images and video with a unique compression technology. In addition to supporting higher rates of video in the local area, these techniques also provide for a greater interactive feel over slower networks and in the wide area.
Additionally, VNC Enterprise Edition 4.6 boasts a range of new and improved features including increased security for end-to-end connections, with support for up to 256-bit AES encryption, and streamlined file transfer options with improved user interface and the ability to transfer multiple files and folders.
One of the many benefits of VNC Enterprise Edition is that it supports the widest range of operating systems, from Windows and Macintosh through to UNIX, making it ideal for multi-platform corporate environments. Scalable, robust and secure, version 4.6 adds support for Windows 7 SP1, SUSE Linux 10-11, Fedora 11-13, Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10.
With its simple peer-to-peer architecture, VNC Enterprise Edition comprises a lightweight VNC Server application on the machine to be controlled and a VNC Viewer component on the controlling machine. With no agents or centralized servers required, VNC Enterprise Edition enables trouble-free installation and use.
VNC Enterprise Edition has been developed specifically for the enterprise and is used worldwide across all industry sectors. Typical applications include remote IT maintenance, IT helpdesk support, home-working, business collaboration and training.
“The demand in the enterprise for true cross-platform remote access and control is growing rapidly and we continue to innovate and drive forward by delivering new features and supporting more platforms,” says Dr Andy Harter, CEO at RealVNC. “Our latest Enterprise Edition 4.6 represents another important leap in VNC technology, with significantly enhanced performance for images and video even over slower connections, making this the best application of its class.”
The cost of VNC Enterprise Edition 4.6 starts at USD 50 for a single VNC Server license with significant volume discounts starting at three copies. In addition, there are generous academic, governmental and non-profit discounts available on request. Existing users with current support cover are eligible for a free upgrade.
