Lead Software Engineer (Cloud)
RealVNC® is a highly successful software company based in Cambridge (UK) city centre. As the original developers of VNC® remote access technology our software is used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide from the non-technical home user to IT professionals from global companies, such as Intel, IBM, NASA, Shell, DreamWorks and Philips.
We're looking for someone to lead a small team of engineers (developers and testers) responsible for an aspect of our remote access products.
Responsible for delivering results through a team of engineers, the role is part technical leadership, part project management, and part line management. The team works in an increasingly agile way, so you'd work with product management and key stakeholders to schedule and track the team's work, coordinate with the wider product engineering team, and steer the overall technical direction of the team itself when required. As a line manager, you'd mentor and develop the members of your team, while your development experience means you can still pitch in and write code as needed.
We have a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and are looking for creative, flexible and collaborative approaches. We value the input of everyone working on our projects, and talented individuals can make a big difference. In exchange, we expect you to be highly motivated, willing to explore novel solutions, and able to make a valuable contribution to our products.
- have previous team lead experience within commercial software teams
- come from a software engineering background, ideally with both front-end and back-end experience, as well as familiarity with what it takes to build secure systems at scale. Python, Java or Go experience are a bonus too.
- can estimate, prioritise and track workloads for you and your team
- are familiar with agile methodologies such as Scrum and understand both their strengths and weaknesses
- can juggle the needs of different stakeholders, while keeping them up to date and setting expectations appropriately
- can bring out the best in people, and can develop them to go on to achieve even more
- have excellent oral and written communication skills
- have a good technical degree (or equivalent qualification / experience)
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role offers a unique opportunity to join our Engineering Team, working for a successful, growing company with a recognised global brand and huge potential and vision. If you’re successful, you’ll be compensated with an attractive package which will be appropriate to your skills and experience. We also offer generous benefits, including a contributory pension, childcare vouchers, and private dental and medical care.
This is a full-time post, but we believe in a healthy work / life balance, so it’s 35 hours per week (Monday – Friday), although flexibility may sometimes be required.
