This article applies to RealVNC Connect through version 7.<\/em><\/p>

What\u2019s a Direct Connection?<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>

RealVNC Connect<\/a> uses its cloud service to discover two endpoints. Namely, one will be the computer you connect from and the other one – the one you’re connecting to.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Obviously, cloud connections have multiple advantages. They’re quick to set up, secured with 256-bit AES encryption, require no configuration, and are an easy way to get to the machine you need quickly.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

However, there are environments where direct connections are the only option.\u00a0This is because data is not supposed to go outside the network.\u00a0The only condition is that you have an Enterprise subscription; you also need the network details for the machine you’re connecting to. It is also possible that some router or firewall configuration will be required.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Enabling Direct Connectivity<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>

Provided\u00a0all of\u00a0the above is not an issue, enabling the feature is very simple. On the machine you want to control, open\u00a0<\/span>Options\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>in the\u00a0VNC Server<\/a>\u00a0v7\u00a0 (or try our new unified app with RealVNC Connect v8). Then, under\u00a0<\/span>Connections<\/span><\/strong>, make sure you\u00a0<\/span>Allow direct VNC connections over TCP and UDP.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

After that, go to the main VNC Server screen and then\u00a0<\/span>Other\u00a0ways to connect<\/span><\/strong>. One of the things shown in there will be the IP address of that machine. Make note of that, as you will need it upon connecting.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Then, if you want to connect to that Server using\u00a0VNC Viewer<\/a>, just type that IP address in the search box at the top. Or you can use the hostname if you have it. Then hit Enter on your keyboard. You’ll see a confirmation screen, asking you for your credentials, depending on the type of authentication on the VNC Server. After that, you’ll be connected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
