Do I still need a license key?¶
Not if you have a Home or Professional subscription. Signing in to VNC Server desk-side at install-time automatically applies your subscription to that computer.
Note
You don’t need a license key at all if you only have instant support.
If you have an Enterprise subscription and device access, you have a little more flexibility. A 25 character license key is available on the Deployment page of your RealVNC account. This key is:
- Useful if you wish to license VNC Connect in bulk or remotely, for example using policy.
- Mandatory if the remote computer is not connected to the Internet.
To apply a license key, run the appropriate command as an administrator:
- Windows:
<install-dir>\vnclicense.exe -add XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
- Mac:
sudo /Library/vnc/vnclicense -add XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
- Linux:
sudo vnclicense -add XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Note
A separate license key for VNC 5.x is also available on the Deployment page, in case you need to provide remote access to legacy platforms that do not support VNC Connect.
