  1. 4.5.4, released 16th June 2010

    • All platforms

      • A new VNC Server parameter determines the maximum number of concurrent connections permitted to the VNC Viewer for Java download port (which is 5800 by default). The default limit is 50.
      • FIXED: The VNC Viewer for Java applet is now signed by RealVNC Limited.

      Windows

      • FIXED: Copy and paste between computers running VNC Viewer and VNC Server is now more robust under Windows Vista and 7.

      UNIX

      • FIXED: VNC Server in Virtual Mode no longer fails to start in certain HP-UX environments, for example computers with more than one network interface card.

    4.5.3, released 15th April 2010

    • All platforms

      • VNC Viewer for Java now has an OK button on the VNC Authentication dialog, so there is no need to rely on the ENTER key to connect.
      • FIXED: VNC Server no longer logs an error if IPv6 is unsupported.
      • FIXED: VNC Server no longer crashes if VNC Chat is enabled while a VNC Viewer user is authenticating.

      Windows

      • NEW: Improved Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 support.

      UNIX

      • NEW: Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 support.
      • Permissions on the ~/.vnc directory are now more restrictive for enhanced security.
      • FIXED: Running certain applications no longer causes X Server (and thus VNC Server) to crash.
      • FIXED: The vnc.so module no longer crashes on switch out. (Note that Fast User Switching is not officially supported, however.)
      • FIXED: Running the vncserver command no longer incorrectly prompts for a password.

      Mac OS X

      • Improved performance using OpenGL (Open Graphics Library).
      • Permissions on the ~/.vnc directory are now more restrictive for enhanced security.
      • The VNC Viewer toolbar now opens more sensitively, making the top center of a connected desktop more accessible.
      • FIXED: VNC Viewer no longer occasionally crashes when other applications access the Clipboard.

    • Windows

      • FIXED: VNC Server is patched against a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Service Mode.
        More details available here.
      • FIXED: Windows 7 no longer reports "The operation completed successfully" when a connection fails.
      • FIXED: VNC Server in User Mode no longer crashes when a fast user switch occurs.
      • FIXED: VNC Server now interprets CTRL-J, CTRL-H, CTRL-I, and CTRL-[ correctly.
      • FIXED: VNC Server now removes desktop backgrounds properly.
      • FIXED: The ZlibLevel Expert tab setting is now restricted to values in the range -1 to 9.
      • FIXED: VNC Address Book connections now open irrespective of whether the Master Password is remembered or not.

      UNIX

      • Ported to AIX 5.3 (PPC).

      Mac OS X

      • FIXED: VNC Viewer no longer discards Expert tab settings that have changed.
      • FIXED: VNC Viewer in full screen mode now sends the CMD key correctly.

      • VNC Enterprise Edition is now faster and more stable under Mac OS X.
      • VNC Viewer now prompts for reconnection when a connection closes.
      • VNC Viewer window can no longer be resized outside the screen area.
      • Improved handling of ALT key, and CMD key is now released when sending CMD-TAB.
      • FIXED: Shortcut keys no longer sent if the VNC Viewer window has lost focus.
      • FIXED: Intermittent failure to save property changes for VNC Server, VNC Viewer, and VNC Address Book.
      • FIXED: Mouse pointer graphics are now captured correctly.
      • FIXED: VNC Server now interacts with Logitech Input Manager properly.
      • FIXED: Connection prompts no longer time out early.
      • FIXED: VNC Viewer now renders desktops using 16 bit color correctly.
      • FIXED: VNC Server now always stops when requested under Mac OS X Leopard.
      • FIXED: VNC Viewer no longer thinks a VNC Server signature has changed when connecting for the first time.
      • FIXED: A non-admin user can now enter a license key to unlock VNC Server if an admin user name and password are supplied.
      • FIXED: Under Mac OS X Leopard, VNC Viewer can no longer (by default) connect as a non-admin user to VNC Server in Service Mode just because that user is logged on.
      • FIXED: Copying files in Finder no longer raises a VNC Server error.
      • FIXED: VNC Server no longer crashes when fetching files from VNC Viewer to an illegal destination.
