The following are known bugs, features and omissions in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1. You may also wish to check the known bugs, features and omissions in VNC 4.0.

1 Sep 2004 10 Windows viewer When Fullscreen mode is selected via the F8 menu, the Windows taskbar can remain on top of the VNC viewer window. Use the system menu (accessible via the icon at the top left of the VNC viewer window) to enter Fullscreen mode - the bar will then dissappear after a short delay.

10 Mar 2005 13 Windows server The Disable local inputs option does not take effect the first time that the server is accessed. Disconnect all viewers, then reconnect. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.4
10 Mar 2005 14 Windows server If the Desktop->Remove wallpaper option is enabled when runnign under pre-XP versions of Windows then Active Desktop enabled when the last viewer disconnects, regardless of whether it was originally enabled. In the Active Desktop content settings, ensure that all web content are unticked. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.4
10 Mar 2005 15 Windows installer If the installer is used to upgrade or replace an existing installation that is still in use, the user will be prompted to reboot the machine, even under Windows NT based systems. Ensure that no VNC components are running before upgrading/replacing existing installations. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.4
29 Mar 2005 17 Windows Viewer Enterprise Edition 4.1.4 VNC Viewer Enterprise Edition 4.1.4 may crash while saving a .vnc configuration file for the current connect. No workaround Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.5
29 Mar 2005 18 Windows Viewer & Server Enterprise Edition 4.1.4 & Free Edition 4.1 Western European accented characters as defined by ISO-8859-1 are stripped out when clipboard data is exchanged between viewer and server, in spite of being officially supported by the RFB protocol specification. 29 Mar 2005 19 Windows Server Enterprise Edition NT Logon & Single Sign-On authentication can fail if no Domain Controller is accessible for session information to be logged to, or if the Domain Controller's event logs can't be accessed when VNC Server is in User-Mode. Ensure that all Domain Controller's Application Event Logs are accessible, and are writable by Domain Users. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.5
29 Mar 2005 20 Windows Server Although "Only prompt when there is a user logged on" may be configured for VNC Server on Windows 9x/Me/NT4/2000, the setting does not take effect, because VNC Server does not in fact support the option under these platforms. 29 Mar 2005 21 Windows Server The tray icon tooltip continues to display the host computer's full set of IP addresses even when VNC Server has been configured to accept connections only from the local machine. No workaround Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.5
29 Mar 2005 22 Windows Server Enterprise Edition 4.1.5, Personal Edition 4.1 When connecting to a server over a slower connection, VNC Viewer can mistakenly switch temporarily into low-compression (Hextile) mode, and permanently into full-color mode. Disable Auto-select in the VNC Viewer's Colour / Encoding settings, and choose the correct settings manually. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.6
31 Mar 2005 23 Windows Viewer Enterprise Edition, Personal Edition When making an unencrypted (Encryption: Prefer Off) connection to a server using Single Sign-On authentication, VNC Viewer can hang after the authentication phase, before displaying the remote desktop. Use Encryption: Always On with Single Sign-On, or disable Single Sign-On. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.6
31 Mar 2005 24 Windows Viewer Enterprise Edition 4.1.5, Personal Edition After first generating a secure key when connecting to a secure server, the connection may fail with a private key error. If the connection is then re-tried using Auto Reconnect then the viewer will continue to prompt the user to generate a secure key, and to fail to connect. When VNC Viewer prompts to reconnect, respond No, then make the connection again manually. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.6
8 Jul 2005 25 Unix vncpasswd The internal password buffer is not allocated correctly, potentially resulting in a segfault. None Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.7
8 Jul 2005 26 Windows Viewer VNC Viewer cannot load VNC 3 configuration files that do not contain the user's password. Edit the .vnc fileusing notepad and remove the "Password=" line. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.7
8 Jul 2005 27 Windows Viewer Enterprise Edition 4.1.6 VNC Viewer crashes if the local clipboard is changed while any AutoReconnect prompts are visible. Avoid Copy/Cut operations until the AutoReconnect dialog has been dismissed. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.7

8 Jul 2005 29 Windows Viewer Enterprise Edition 4.1.6 Creating a new connection with an existing viewer's New Connection menu item causes the original viewer to become unresponsive until the new connection is closed. 8 Jul 2005 33 Windows Viewer Enterprise Edition & Personal Edition When connecting using a .vnc file, VNC Viewer will not offer to continue connecting if the server's identity does not match the one stored in the .vnc file. 8 Jul 2005 36 Unix Server When a viewer dissappears (i.e. is switched off or physically disconnected from the network), the server may block indefinitely the next time that it tries to contact the viewer, in spite of the ClientWaitTimeMillis setting having been specified. Run the X server with the "-dumbSched" option. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.7
8 Jul 2005 37 Unix Server The license-management directory may be created with incorrect permissions, preventing some users from being able to start desktops. None Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.7
8 Jul 2005 38 Unix Server When making a reverse connection to a viewer, the server can fail to connect with an EINTR error. Run the X server with the "-dumbSched" option. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.7
12 Jul 2005 39 Viewer VNC Viewer will fail with the error "BufferedInStream overrun: max itemSize exceeded" if the server's cursor becomes excessively large (e.g. 64x64 pixels at 32bpp) and the viewer is configured for local cursor rendering. Disable local cursor rendering by VNC Viewer. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.7
26 Sep 2005 40 Viewer VNC Viewer will alert the local user to reverse connections being closed before having authenticated, making it possible to "pester" a user by repeatedly connecting to their listening viewer. Do not run VNC Viewer in listening mode. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.8
26 Sep 2005 41 Windows Viewer and Server VNC Server and listening VNC Viewers can accumulate redundant network resources over time, eventually causing them to fail. None Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.8
26 Sep 2005 42 Windows Viewer VNC Viewer fails to restore its window correctly when scrollbars are active and window is minimized using the Windows Show Desktop button. Minimize VNC Viewer using the viewer's Minimize option. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.8
26 Sep 2005 43 Windows Server The NT Authentication tab of the VNC Server Properties dialog reverts to displaying the previous NT Authentication configuration if Apply is pressed, rather than the new configuration. Close and re-open the NT Authentication dialog to see the new configuration. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.8
26 Sep 2005 44 Unix Server The vncserver script can hang while attempting to launch the VNC desktop if the Xvnc program lacks the suid-root flag, or when running as the root user. Ensure that Xvnc is suid-root and run vncserver as a non-root user. Fixed in VNC Enterprise Edition 4.1.8
