Ubuntu has an in-built VNC-based remote-desktop server installed (but not
configured/enabled!) out-of-the-box, I believe.  Alternatively, you might try
the VNC Enterprise Edition, which provides both the x0vncserver and a vnc.so
module, either of which can remote a console X server.
