With that in mind, ubuntu is a reasonable choice. To use vnc on any 
unix/linux installation, best way to start is to see if vnc is somehow 
bundled with the system. For ubuntu: System -> Administration -> 
SynapcitcPackageManager. In there search for 'vnc'. This will show a 
list of vnc-related packages. Read the description carefully to see what 
you want.

For ubuntu, I'd advice to use one of the next:

    * `vino`, which provides a msWindows like vnc-session: The
      console-desktop is available in the vnc session.
    * `vnc4server`, which provides new sessions for every connection.

Others either are libaries, viewer-side applications, add-ons or have 
extended capabilities.
