New User having trouble with free edition

I may have posted this already, but I believe I used the wrong address last
time.
I've used VNC for about two years. Recently, our IT guy installed a new
Westell Versalink 327W router. Since then we can't make a connection.
Unfortunately, the IT guy went out of business and we can't find a new one
who knows VNC.
I deleted everything and downloaded the latest free version at both the
viewer and server. I configured the port setting using Port Forwarding. I
continue to get a "failed: connection timed out" response.
We're running XP home OS on both server and viewer. Theses are the same
machines and OS that worked previously.
Any suggestion what to check?
