Connecting to server behind a VT2442 router

Karl,

I have tried connecting to another PC. My in-laws have a PC that is not behind a router. Their setup is as follows:

Internet (Comcast for ISP) --->Cable Modem---> PC running WinXP Pro.

They have the same ISP as I do and I can connect to their PC just fine. Any suggestions on if I am configuring the custom port forwarding wrong with those fields I had mentioned (Source IP Address, Source Netmask, Destination IP Address...)?

You know I would try checking that pports are not been blocked by your isp, I would try and connect from a different location. This has all the halmarks of blocked ports.. Have you tried a different isp and location.

Is there someone that can help with the following problem because I am not sure what I'm doing wrong? I am trying to setup VNC server (free edition) on my home PC so I am able to access it from work. I am able to connect effortlessly from inside my local LAN. But whenever I try connecting externally I always get the message "Unable to connect to host: Connection refused (10061)".

Here is my physical setup:

Internet (Comcast is my ISP) --->Cable Modem---> Motorola VT2442 VOIP router--->PC running WinXP Pro.

Here is my IP scheme: (Example IP addresses used)

Static IP from Comcast: 71.200.50.1
Router IP: 192.168.1.1
PC IP: 192.168.1.2 (set to static through router configuration)

In Windows Firewall settings (Exceptions tab) I have done the following:

-Allowed VNC as an exception
-Added ports 5900, 5800, and 5500 using TCP (change scope setting set to any computer)

In Windows Firewall settings (Advanced tab-->Local Area Connection-->Settings-->Services tab) I have done the following:

-Added 3 service settings for VNC using the following settings:

Name/IP address: 192.168.1.2
External port: 5900
Internal port: 5900
TCP

The other two are the same but using ports 5800 and 5500.

For my router configuration I have done the following:

-Router configuration has a setting that you can choose that will allow port forwarding for a specific application. I have done this for VNC. When this is set it displays the following info:

Protocol         Port Start     Port End      Port Map
TCP               5500            5500           5500
TCP               5800            5800           5800
TCP               5900            5900           5900

-Tried using the advice of portforward.com (but was confused) to set up custom port forwarding. Here is the link for my router to port forward for VNC:

They give screen shots of the info to enter. Not sure if I am entering the wrong info for Source IP Address, Source Netmask, Destination IP Address, and I've noticed Destination Netmask is unchangeable. Also, when trying custom port forwarding, I have not been setting up the 3 ports using UDP because I have read from numerous sources that VNC does not use UDP. Should I be setting that up?

Can anyone help me?
