Looking at the documentation for vnc, unless you have specifically set the ports to be in the xx50 range (i.e. The default being 5800/5900), I would change your open ports to those that you find in the vnc server configuration. Also, you state that you have a DSL "modem". If you are able to change the configuration in the DSL modem, then it's not a modem, but a router. That is more of a side-note than help configuring the modem.

Thanks for the help. I guess I do not know the difference between a router and a modem. I am a bellsouth dsl customer and each time I talk with their customer support, they say modem, but who knows. I can enter the ip address of the device into my internet address bar and it takes me to a page with options that allow me to look at all kinds of info, including setting up ports. The Bellsouth tech setup the vnc ports, and they show "range 5750-5850" with a base port of "5800" for one opening and then another with "range 5850-5950" with a base of "5900". Do you think that this device being a router or the way these ports are configured is a problem?
