    It also depends on the computer's power, ie its CPU speed and video
card's capability.  No kidding, I've got a video card whose performance
is so bad that VNC is barely useable:
every click has a delay of at least 10 seconds to get the effect!!!

    The card is an ATi 3D Rage IIC, mounted inside a HP Proliant NAS
server!  So for this particular server, I've to use RDP to manage it.

    On the other hand, you could check VNC options.  In VNC4, there's a
"Desktop" tab in which you could remove wallpaper, background pattern,
etc.  Try to play on this.  There's also the "Capture method" tab.  Try
to play with that too.
