Belgian keyboard + ALT+GR

Hi list,

Trying to connect to a linux vnc server with from a windows XP workstation. I
am facing a keyboard problem, the Alt-Gr key is not working as expected.
For instance
Key combination, result , expected
AltGr+i, i,@
AltGr+<, ), \
AltGr+",",#

I would mind it in general, but ALT Gr is used to type in chars such as "| @ \
~` 4 ] [ "... needless to say you can really use linux without these chars.

Has anyone exprerienced this problem and solved it ? (beside opening a text
file containing the mentioned char and proceeding via copying  and pasting)
