Firefox not starting in VNC Gnome session.

When I log in with VNC, Firefox won't start up in Gnome.  In the
syslog, it says that the 'dbus service' needs to be started in order
to run the program.

In order to get VNC to work, I commented out xinitrc - is that part of
the problem?  I took it out because VNC wouldn't connect because of
permission problems with the file.

Should I chmod xinitrc, and add it back in?  Or can I start the dbus
service in xstartup?
