web access through the remote machine

    There're quite a big problem of wording in your descriptions. 
First, you wrote "I can't get IE or Firefox to connect to the web on the
host [ie server]" (cf message below).  Now, you wrote "Everything works
except IE and Firefox on the viewer machine cannot connect to the web."

    If both statements are correct, then your problem is in every
computer.  But obviously, that's not true.

    Anyway, your problem is peculiar.  Make sure that before using VNC
server or viewer, you could indeed use IE and FF without problem.
