If you can access your home PC from other IP addresses, but not from work,
then it is quite likely it is being blocked because all Internet connections
at work take place through some Internet gateway/proxy server, which only
allows connections through to a limited number of ports (80, 445, etc).

Set up the VNC server to allow Java access (default port is 5800) and from
your work's PC open an internet browser and in its address bar type:
http://your_home_ip_address:5800/
If this doesn't work then back at the home VNC server machine change the port
from 5800 to some random high port, e.g. 25800 and see if this works, or
indeed port 80, since you know that outgoing connections through this port
work for your work's gateway proxy. In all cases, you'll need to set port
forwarding for the appropriate port at the home ADSL router and allow
incoming connections at the VNC server machine software firewall.
