Activating Google desktop search remotely

I am talking about the 'Quick Search Box'.  In the Prefrences, there is a 
checkbox option 'Enable Quick Search Box with Hotkey (Hit "Ctrl" twice to 
bring forward)", but I don't see any way to change the hotkey functionality.

Do you mean the mini-viewer? You might want to try changing it to a function
key, that works for me.
