I have resolved the password greyed out problem on windows xp SP2 by resetting the local security policy. There is a Microsoft article on how to do this but to save time here's how. Go to start and run and in the run box type "secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose" Hope it helps
