So let me get this straight - when you put the desktop's IP address into
the viewer on the laptop then you get connected to the laptop? Or do
you not get a connection at all?
If it's the latter then I'd guess you won't be able to ping the desktop
from the laptop either. That would suggest the router is doing some
sort of firewalling of the LAN connection from the wireless. You'll
have to disable this (or add a specific exclusion for VNC) before you'll
be able to connect.
