freeNX is just one implementation of an NX server. The technology is
simply called NX. Wheter it's better depends on your needs - see below.

We use it on many machines of our clients, and, yes, NX is much faster than
VNC. However, with NX you cannot share a desktop. You can only create new
sessions. That's why we still use VNC, e.g. for training purposes.
