Can't remotely connect through the internet

I'm new to VNC and tunneling, but found I can make a tunneling
connection with Cygwin/OpenSSH and Mindterm as well as Putty.
I have an old version of Mindterm (2.1) that includes a graphic SCP
client. Its small and portable and doesn't install, so would work from a
flash drive.
Putty is probably more convenient, but there are other options.

Sure: PuTTY should do the trick. It's an SSH client. Use this version,
though,
as the regular version still puts stuff into the registry, I think:
