If you're willing to run another application and you can have a decent
guarentee that the home/work machines will be on when you need them, then
Hamachi is exactly what you're looking for -- it creates a private,
encrypted virtual LAN that connects all of the machines you choose together
directly, which is -perfect- for what you're trying to do; I do the exact
same thing -- a copy of VNC and Hamachi are running all the time on all of
my computers.
