More VNC and ZoneAlarm problems

Hmm... It almost sounds as if VNC is NOT running in "Service" mode... I'd
double-check that you've got VNC set as a service. One other thing that a
lot of people have found to be helpful, even if the Windows firewall is
disabled, is to add the VNC executable as allowed in the XP firewall... I
doubt that's your issue, since you can connect if someone is logged into the
machine. I think the issue is more likely going to turn out to be that VNC
is running in "user" mode instead of "service" mode. Maybe ZA is somehow
blocking VNC from running in "service" mode? You might try looking into
making sure VNC thinks it's supposed to be a service (check the services in
Control Panel) and then make sure ZA isn't blocking the service mode for
VNC.

Thanks for responding. I've done all that.
To reiterate, I can connect to my host machine from a remote machine.
The only issue I have is connecting immediately after a reboot. A logon at
the host machine console clears the problem.
That's unacceptable since it cannot be done remotely.

>From the ZA FAQ (http://www.zonelabs.com.au/faq/default.asp?faq=28#86):
12. How to configure Zone Alarm to work with VNC In order for VNC and Zone
Alarm Pro to work together, follow the steps below.
1. On the server machine, do one of the following:
- If you know the IP address or subnet of the viewer (client) you will be
using for client access, and it will always be the same, add that IP or
subnet to the Trusted Zone.
- If you do not know the IP address of the viewer, or it will change, then
give the program access permission and server permission for the Trusted and
Internet Zones.
2. On the viewer (client) machine, run VNCviewer to connect to the server
machine. Do not run in 'listen mode'.
3. On the viewer (client) machine, do one of the following:
- If you know the IP or subnet of the Server, and it will always be the
same, add that address or subnet to the Trusted Zone. This is the preferred
option.
- If you do not know the IP address of the Server, or it will change, then
give the program access permission and server permission for both the
Trusted and Internet Zone.
4. When prompted by VNCviewer on the viewer machine, enter the name or IP
address of the server machine followed by the password when prompted. You
should be able to connect.
Caution: If you enable VNC access by giving it server permission and access
permission, be sure to set and use your VNC password in order to maintain
security. We recommend adding the server and viewer IP addresses to the
Trusted Zone, rather than giving the application Internet Zone permission,
if possible.
Tip: Leave the Trusted Zone security level on Medium. If you raise it to
High you may have access problems.

Subject: More VNC and ZoneAlarm problems
Hi,
I've searched the list and haven't found a post specific to the issue I am
seeing with RealVNC and ZoneAlarm Pro.
I'm using:
Windows XP Pro (firewall disabled)
ZoneAlarm Pro - Latest and greatest
RealVNC Personal Edition - Latest and greatest.
I installed and configured RealVNC on the XP Pro system which was running ZA
Pro. I configured RealVNC, my firewall, and my router, and I am able to
connect from a remote (not on my home network) PC.
If I reboot my host PC, I can no longer connect from the remove PC until I
logon to XP at the host PC.
If I disable ZA, it works fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
