Blinking Mouse Cursor / Systray Icon

I'm assuming you are using VNC version 4.1 or better.

1) You can rid yourself of the flashing/blinking mouse cursor, by 
unchecking the "Alpha Blending" option on the server options.
2) You cannot do anything about the change in colour of the tray icon. I 
was fortunate enough to have the whole screen to paint to in my 
application, so I put a backdrop window that hid the whole screen 
including the Start Bar. In your situation, you are not ensuring 
"quality control" like I was, so it is not so important that the kids 
can see they're being monitored. Just leave your viewer on all the time, 
and they'll be too paranoid to go anywhere nasty on the net!
