I'm afraid I'm not of much help here because I have never used Apani's VPN
and am not familiar with it.  There are multiple kinds of VPN and most
standalone ones are IPSec - I use (and very successfully with VNC I might
add) PPTP - the client is built into Windows and the server runs on my
SBS2000 system so anyone with a Windows workstation (configured properly)
can call in.

I am not that familiar with VPN, however I do know that it has a
tendancy to fragment packets.  Possibly increasing the MTU size for
the VPN may help.

Additionally you could try slowing down the connection by lowering the
color depth and resolution....

Maybe Alan will post I think he has worked with VPN more I just use
SSH all the time :)
Just some thoughts.
