One other thing you might want to look into if your grandad is using XP is
'Remote Assistance'. It is designed to do just what you are trying to do.

Subject: Connecting to an external computer from within a home network

I am trying to connect to my grandads computer as he has trouble using it
and
he lives to far away to visit. I am a newcomer to this type of program and
so
far have only managed to connect to other computers on my home network. Is
there something you have to do to enable connection to external ip adresses?
