Viewer closes immediately after login

I connect to the server, put in my password, then the viewer comes up, and for a second I can see the desktop of my server, but then the viewer window immediately closes itself.
The only thing I can think of is that the server has a screen resolution much greater than the resolution of the viewer.  I don't see why that would close the viewer down though, as I've been able to connect to the server with no problems from different machines that also have a lower resolution.
The viewer machine is also connected to a Linksys router, but I would think that if that was the problem I wouldn't be able to connect at all.
Any ideas?
