I'm encountering a java exception under a specific situation when using Real VNC 4.0b4.
Here's what I want to do:
real vnc 4.0b4 server running on my Solaris 5.8 unix box
I've got Sun Java 1.4.2_05 on my XP based PC.
On my Windows XP laptop, I want to set my background to use the active desktop to connect to http://my_server:5801 so that my PC desktop is actually showing my unix VNC server.
I can use my PC to run either the realvnc/tightvnc standalone VNC viewer and I can connect to my unix vnc server just fine. I can also use IE or Firefox browser to connect to the same server using the vnc java applet downloaded from the server (using port=5801).
To set up my windows XP active desktop, I use: XP_display_properties->Customize_desktop on 'web' tab, and create an entry with URL=http://my_server:5801.
When I try this, I get the following:
java.net.UnknownHostException: myserver
Warning: Applet Window
Because it is running on the XP desktop, I can't figure out how to open the associated Java console to see further details about the exception it is complaining about. The unix vnc server's log doesn't show anything of interest.
ideas? known bug?
Andre
