I've never tried using VNC as a service, so I don't know if it lets you
connect with no user logged in, but I know Windows is very picky about things
like this and it sounds like Windows is blocking the connection. The
"Connection close unexpectedly" sounds familiar and I think that comes up
with such a case -- VNC tries to connect, and may connect with a server, but
then it is shut down by Windows when there is any attempt to use a user
interface. I think I remember having a similar problem with Remote Login on
Windows XP. (I was also shocked that after spending so much on Windows XP,
when my friend logged in remotely, it kicked me off -- All that price, and it
only allows one user at at time -- amazing!)
