native x server crashes linux system

Thanks for the reply. Well the screen becomes inactive in various ways.
First time it went black. Other times it just freezes. Further I cannot
ssh to the machine and I cannot ping it. I have to press the reset to get
it back. I have now tried running a viewer from the linux system to itself,
which causes the same problem.
