Thanks Alan for clarifiying I was missing that the connection was over
vpn. If it truly is then alan is correct. what will happen is that
the shortest route will be chosen by the PC. Since 192.168.1.1 is the
local address of the machine it will have a route distance of zero.
Another option, other than changing one of the networks to 192.168.2.x
would be to ensure that the ips are unique for all machines on both
sides of the VPN. If one was .5 and the other .6 and there are no
other .5 or .6 on the network then that would work fine.
On a side note, many lower end routers (e.g. linksys netgear, etc)
used to forward Protocols based on port (e.g forwarding tcp or udp 47
would enable GRE. why they ever did it that way is beyond me.
