The fact you are getting a timed out message means the server is not even
hearing you.
Odds are you are behind a firewall or something like that?
The reason there is no 'step by step guide' is because individual network
setups vary greatly especially when it comes to firewalls. Go to this site
if you have not already - http://www.realvnc.com/gettingstarted.html
When you mention you are using services I assume you are running under NT.
Read the paragraphs related to your platform and then see if you can come up
with specific questions.
We also need to know a little about how your network is laid out to get
anywhere with you.

Subject: New To VNC - and lost
Hello: I am very very new to using VNC and totally lost. I put the program
on a host (server?) computer and set it to service mode. Then I put the
program on my own computer. I am attempting to connect - but nothing. I am
getting 'timed out' messages, 'can't find' messages, etc. Would someone be
willing to give me step by step (in plain english) directions? I know this
can be a pain, teaching someone in plain step by step methods, but this
would
be most appreciated. Thank you.
Doug
