Connection compatibilty

Hi, all!

Two questions, please, regarding VNC.  First is, am I
supposed to be connected to the internet when I use
VNC to remotely access another computer, or does it
matter one way or the other?

Secondly, I am trying to use pcAnywhere to access
another computer, but am having trouble.  Someone told
me that with pcAnywhere, the type of internet
connection has to be the same for both computers.  My
computer connects to the internet using a phone land
line, and the other computer uses cable for
connectivity.  So I've been told that pcAnywhere won't
work between these two computers.  Would I have the
same problem with VNC?
