vncthing "double buffer local display"

Hi,
I just tested several setups for a friend's Gigabit connection between
a Win2000 vnc server
(P4 1.4GHz) and a MacOS X (G4 Powerbook, probably 1.33GHz) client.
I found out that
a) ultravnc gives me the best performance as server (with its own
driver and with hardware acceleration disabled)
b) VNCThing gives me (and remarkably) the best performance as client.
I found out a "double
buffer local display" in the options which speeds things up VERY much...
c) disabling compression is best for performance.
(My friend is a doctor and needs real-time and no 3d -radiographies,
things like that-, so that's why I used those settings among other
things).
As a matter of fact, one can use Corel Photopaint 11 with a
full-colour 360x360dpi fotograph (about 150x150mm size) and using a
tablet as pointer with a very tiny delay (so it is quite quite
usable).
The problem is:
VNCThing is discontinued (or at least looks like), the client I
downloaded is from 2002 or even before. I tried REALVnc, TightVNC and
Chicken of the VNC and found them all quite slower with the same
settings (when available).
Is there anything I may have missed in other Mac clients? Is there
something similar to that framebuffering in other clients?
Thanks and sorry for the long post.
Pedro
