XP to Red Hat ES GUI hangs

I am having trouble using the GUI after I connect from a WinXP sp2 to Red
Hat Enterprise 3.0 using VNC 4.0. The connection is successful, I see the
desktop on the Red hat box the mouse and keyboard function, but when I click
on any part of the GUI, what ever I click on hangs and stops. I have tried
to bring up a terminal and it just hangs and stops.
This is very frustrating.
