Version 4 Server will not work on XP

Hi
I have a small network, XP on one 98 on another..address are 192.168.1.X
I installed version 4 on XP Home, also SP2 simultaneously. It would not work. Removed firewall, and it would not work. Editted the list of conections on server side properties , same. Then i tried reinstalling v3.3.7, just to check, see if it was SP2 on Xp that caused the failure. It worked..So I have left 3.3.7 on xp..However what is the trick to get it to work ?
