Remote control using vnc

Hello,
I'm having a problem using vnc when connecting to a client workstation.
The connection is not a remote control connection, its the same type of
connection one gets when connecting to a remote computer using X windows
- a new desktop is display. 

My OS is Redhat's Core 2. Is there a configuration file to solve this
problem. 

Also, how does one start the vnc server (RedHat's Core 2) when the
computer boots. Putting vncserver or /usr/bin/vncserver in the rc.local
file does not work.
