If you have a separate DSL/cable modem in addition to, or in place of a
router, don't forget to check for a firewall in the *modem*.  I struggled
for days with a refused connection problem before I discovered that the
DSL modem I was working with had a built-in firewall whose default
configuration blocked ports 5800 and 5900.
