Implementing VNC

I work for a public school and would like to implement the VNC software.
 I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to secure the software,
or even better if you already have established a network with VNC let me
in on some helpful strategies.  I already plan on making the server only
respond to my computers specific IP address, and setting a strong
password.  I'm really looking for more security tips, but any tips will
help.
