Problem Connecting through a firewall

Hi
 
I am trying to connect to my home pcs which are behind an ADSL firewall
router using VNC and a browser.
 
I have mapped the internal IP addresses and ports of the PCs (eg
192.169.1.4:5800) to public port (1004) each pc getting a different public
port.
 
When I connect to my public ip address xxx.xxx.x.x:1004 I get the VNC
authorisation screen correctly but when I enter the password I set in the
VNC server nothing happens for a while and I then get a message:
java.net.NoRouteToHostException: Operation timed out.
 
Can anyone help me resolve this?
