The original question was:
Is there any way I can hide the sys tray icon if realVNC is
running on either 9x or XP? I am sys admin for a school, and I
don't want kids going around playing with the settings.
You wrote:
Open regedit and from the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
remove the "WinVNC" value.
You might also need to remove the shortcuts from the Start menu.
Since the poster was asking about both XP and 9x, and since you replied
telling him to remove
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\WinVNC,
which won't exist on Win9x, don't you think it's possible that the original
poster might be sufficiently mislead to find and delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\Win
VNC, assuming your post to simply contain a typo?
