Secure VNC

Hello,
I Want to secure the VNC connection.
I read about SSL, digital signature, certificates,
public and private keys, mac.. and more

Now I have 2 questions.

1)Why when I searched for security in VNC results show
mostly SSH, and what is the difference?

2)Is it possible to secure the data transferred
between the server and the client without changing the
server?
