Basically:

VNC includes a HTTP server (by default port 5800).  The sole purpose of
this HTTP server is to get the java viewer to your browser so that your
JVM can run it.

The Java viewer, like any other viewer, connects to the VNC server on the
RFB  server (by default port 5900).
