realVNC Server on XP - vncviewer from Linux

Hello list,

found that a quite similar thread had been there in the archives but it
has not been discussed any further. So I start over again :-)

I used to run realVNC 3.3.7 (as well as tightVNC 1.2.9) on Win/XPpro
boxes. The first tries to connect to the new version 4.0 ended with
"connection closed by server" from Linux vncviewer. In previously
mentioned thread it has been stated out, that personal firewalls are a
possible trouble causing.

All boxes using Zonealarm - and : yes - tests showed that when taking
Zonealarm off realVNC 4.0 works. Further experiments showed that
connection works when process VNCserver for Win32 needs to have the
checkmark for trusted server been set.

But even though the stability was not very satisfactory. For instance
when remotely opening Zonealarm from vncviewer running on Linux, that
vncviewer on Linux client freezed. Only command 'disconnect all
clients' from realVNC 4.0 server did reset state to reestablish a new
connection.

On the other side the 4.0 viewer running against a Linux VNC server
(again the old one) works fine.

For now it seems that using the older version is probably better - or is
inbetween a patch out for this issue?

Regards,

Robert
