Problem with remote desktop

The current VNC release can only remote "session 0" when running as a
service.  This is normally the "console" session, *unless* you use remote
desktop to connect to it, at which point a different session is the
"console".  The VNC Server can only remote "active" sessions, i.e. ones
connected to the console or currently active via Remote Desktop.

The solution in your case is to log in to the original session on the
console of the XP machine - this will reassign session 0 to the console and
thus keep it active and therefore accessible.
