Numlock weirdness in 4.0 Beta 5

I am experiencing strange behavior with the numeric keypad in Beta5.

When VNC comes up, the numlock is off. I hit the numlock key and the
light comes on but the keypad is still sending Home/End/PGup/PGDn, etc. 
I see this behavior in most applications.  However, numlock works as
expected in openoffice.  However, even after turning it on in openoffice
it still does not work in, say, gnome-terminal.

This is a real showstopper for my users as they are doing data entry.

I am running Beta 5 on fedora core 1 connecting to a RH9 server running
beta5 vncserver.  The clients are emachines T2742's.

I know there was work done in B5 regarding the numlock key and the
MenuKey.  I have set MenuKey="" but that does not help.

Please help before my users decide to just kill me. ;-)

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
